Friendship is felt, given and cultivated. Just start being aware of that and live it.
Before continuing, let me clarify one thing. You can call it whatever you want: God, Universe, Infinite Intelligence, etc. The name is not important. What matters is that it is YOUR God.
Your God is your friend, of course He is. But you know what? Here comes an interesting point. Friendship, and actually much more than that, infinite love, is already given to you, just by the fact that you exist. But now comes the matter of feeling it and experiencing that trust and complicity typical of friendship. And here is where we need to do our part and take an active role in cultivating it.
Always remember that in the universe everything is change and tends to chaos. If you don’t dedicate time to cultivating this friendship and don’t pay attention to it, it may not grow, or it may decrease. And you may feel distant from God. Have you not noticed that, in the universe, everything that is not growing is dying? Nothing remains stagnant. Nothing stays on stand-by. Everything you give energy to grows and everything you neglect dies.
Plus you have to be aware of something else. If you want to get something from the universe you must first give. Give your energy, give your time and above all give your attention.
Knowing this, and like any other friendship that we want to nurture, we must work on it. How do you nurture that friendship? Well, like any friend, you should share things with Him, thoughts or reflections. And He will share His with you. You can start by getting to know things about your new friend. Depending on who your God is, you will have to pick up a book that tells His life or His reflections. Simply read one sentence each day. One sentence is all you need. Each sentence will tell you something about His life. Today, He faced a challenge. Today, He had dinner at five in the afternoon. Now He is talking to someone. It’s all you need to spend a minute thinking about another person, and your brain will begin to build a bond of familiarity with your God.
There will be times when you are surprised to realize that you both are doing similar things. Then you can start saying good night and good morning. Or wish Him that His lunch feels as good as yours. Or let Him see the sunset you’re watching. Or thank Him for giving you such an incredible afternoon. When the time comes to ask Him to help you, which will come, you will ask Him and then you will be overcome by a feeling of friendship that is much greater and more intense than you had before. And that’s incredible. And not because you now have a stronger friendship than before, but because you are feeling it more intensely.
Here lies everything good that happens to you from now on: your consciousness. Remember it, and let me be repetitive about it, because you will need it to realize it. Now you will be aware that this friendship can be deeper because you are feeling it more intensely. And with this, you have just expanded your friendship and your awareness, realizing that there is more than before. It’s all about the experience from now on, what you experience and feel. That is the language of your soul. Cultivate friendship with your God and experience that you are aware of it. If you are aware of it, it is because it is part of your new world, the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.
